Here are my upcoming public performances through the end of September.
There are two shows.
Both are solo performances featuring a mix of classical, Latin, popular and flamenco styles.
Friday, September 21 at the Roxy in Encinitas. 7:00-9:30PM
Very cool place that has been supporting music forever in San Diego. They have something for every taste. Great food mostly vegetarian but don’t let that scare you, try the falafel burger or their pizzas. Roxy also has specialty coffee drinks, full bar and desserts.
All ages are welcome!
Sunday, September 30 at Orfila Vineyards & Winery in Escondido. 3:00-5:30PM
This is the place to go if you want to relax out in nature for a couple hours. Orfila overlooks the vineyards and mountains in the distance.
Taste some wine, grab some food(they are supposed to have a gourmet food truck) and listen to music.
Kids are definitely welcome even though it is a winery.
In all I have five gigs the next two weekends so I will be a busy guy. Two weddings, a fiesta and the two public events above.
It’s been blast seeing everyone at the recent shows and it is always great to see familiar faces so hope to see you! You might even get your photo on the website! Check my blog.
Also check my performance calendar.
Hi Everybody,
I am very excited to be back at Orfila this Friday, August 24, 3:30-6:30 PM. If you are looking for a great way to unwind and start your weekend off right this is the place. It is so relaxing out in their gardens, overlooking the vineyards and enjoying a glass of wine and some guitar music. Click here for details.
All ages are welcome.
Two For the Road ‘Mobile American Comfort Food’ a gourmet food truck will also be on hand.
Hope to see you there and play for you!!
This week was filled with projects, students, arranging music and rehearsals. I finally have a chance to write about last weekends event at Orfila Vineyards & Winery in Escondido! What a great time!! There were lots of friends who came out to relax on a Saturday afternoon. It was great to see you all, play for you and hang too.
If you haven’t been to the winery yet it is a must see San Diego destination. Great place to enjoy a picnic lunch a beverage and just relax. It is kid friendly and they have a blast running and playing as parents rest their bones! All the employs are chill and super helpful. Nice selection of wines and the best…you dont have to drive to Temecula or take an extended trip to Paso Robles or Napa.
In addition to the music, the wine and the food they also had Katy Doherty of KD Custom Jewelry with some very cool items available. From my seat on stage she seemed to be a fan favorite keeping busy ALL day and the kids loved her too!
I definitely recommend you pay them a visit…and how about on Aug 24, 3:30-6:30 as I will be back there for another go and looking forward to it!
Hope to see you there!
Did you watch KNSD 7/39 Morning News yesterday? If you did you would have heard Slayen & Fox Guitar Duo.
5:25 AM as they came back from commercial one of my tunes, “Sunny & 70″ was aired as Jason Austell described the scene outside the KNSD building on Broadway just north of Horton Plaza.
Thanks to everyone at KNSD especially @djtikiNBCSD (twitter) She’s super cool and easy to work with…and always looking for local music to all my colleagues out there!
KNSD is doing a lot to promote local music with shows like SoundDiego which airs after Saturday Night Live on Saturday evenings make sure you check out the show or set your DVR!
If you did not get to see “Sunny & 70″ broadcast live check out the link below…and of course watch KNSD News all day. You never know when they’ll air us again!

Our music is based on 12 notes!
That’s it!
No more!
“12 Notes & the Truth!,” this blog, focuses on everything those 12 little notes offer.
These 12 notes not only make up the music of every band and artist we listen to but make the world go ’round, as well.
“12 Notes & the Truth!,” will cover anything and everything in music that strikes a chord
with myself and hopefully you, as well!.
Guitar music, pop styles, jazz, classical and the social issues attached to them all will be featured in the blog.
Expect a little high brow education, low brow comedy and anything between that helps convey the world of music
in my head. Of course I will let you know what I am up to from time to time, as well, performances, projects, etc.

From one music lover to another I will try to live up to these 12 notes and their truth.
When you are done with your practice session…put in 5 more minutes. These extra five minutes often turn into much more and can become very inspired. This might have something to do with the fact that you have done your regimented practice and are now playing for your own fulfillment on the instrument. Also it takes time for your brain and muscles to coordinate the way you want. It is no different than a workout. Those first 10 minutes of exercise can be rough before you hit your stride with endorphins being released, etc. Musicians and athletes both use the terms being locked in or being in the zone.
There have been countless times I was not having a great session and been ready to call it a day when I decided to add an extra 5. Some of my most productive sessions have come out of this practice. I’ve written some of my best compositions and infused strong musicality when I have gotten into ‘the zone.’
Give it a try…if nothing else, you get an extra 5 minutes of practice!
Note to parents of guitar students: This may or may not work with young kids. Even if they love to play their guitar they are often driven to fill their duty i.e., a 20 minute practice session and can get frustrated over extending the time. Of course you know your kids and how they work best.
Let me know how this works for you!
Hey Everyone,
I am performing solo at the Roxy Encinitas this Saturday, April 14, 7-9:30 PM. I’ve been playing at the Roxy for over 10 years now and still love playing there.
If you’ve never been they have some great food, drinks, coffee and desserts. My favs are the falafel burger, artichoker sandwich, squash enchiladas….. Click here for details on the Roxy.
I’ll be right in front of the fish tank!
All ages are welcome so hope to see you there!
